One of the most bewildering aspects of commercializing a disinfectant product is determining the specific efficacy tests that are required by the US EPA to register the product and substantiate the various permissible disinfectant efficacy claims.
The information appearing on this page is provided by Antimicrobial Test Laboratories as a general guide, for educational purposes. It is not intended to be a substitute for good, current regulatory advice from EPA's antimicrobial division or a good EPA antimicrobial consultant.

The summary information below was assembled by Antimicrobial Test Laboratories in early 2014. It is believed to be more current (as of publication) than EPA's own 810 series of guidance documents.

Product testing requirements change over time, so please check with EPA or a good consultant to verify the accuracy of these testing requirements as they pertain to your sanitizer or disinfectant.

Note: a "carrier" is just an individual inoculated and dried test surface and LCL stands for "lower certified limit."
