Companies must now submit efficacy data to EPA to substantiate mister/fogger claims on disinfectant product labels.  Antimicrobial Test Laboratories recently discussed best practices with senior-level EPA staff.  Paraphrased, EPA indicated “…the protocol for room sterilization that has been posted for over a year…is the starting point for developing disinfection fogging protocols,” and “EPA would expect that any general protocol would require some degree of modification based on the particular characteristics of the device and/or proposed use patterns.”  In short, there is no “one size fits all” protocol for misters/foggers.

To help industry, ATL has created a “smart” protocol.  It is free to our clients and based on EPA’s room sterilization guidance.  Moreover, it is designed to dramatically reduce the costs of efficacy testing associated with multiple device/chemical combinations.  If your company is interested, let us know and we will email you a copy, which your company is free to use as a basis for EPA submission.
