Last year, Microchem Laboratory participated in the biennial Recent Advances in Microbial Control meeting, sponsored by the Society for Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology. The meeting was held in the Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego, California and spanned five days.

Many topics related to the prevention of microbial growth and disinfection were discussed. Highlights included a presentation by Microchem’s Dr. Benjamin Tanner on emerging antimicrobial technologies, a presentation by Dow Microbial Control on control of Legionella in cooling towers, a fascinating talk about aptamers (nucleic acids that bind to proteins) by NSF’s Jesse Miller, and an overview of microbial contamination control in cleanrooms given by Aaron Mertens with Steris. The keynote presentation was given by Dr. Charles Gerba.

A pre-conference workshop titled “Navigating the Regulatory Pathway for Antimicrobial Registration” given by Microchem’s Dr. Benjamin Tanner and Abigail Wacek from the regulatory consulting firm Technology Sciences Group (TSG).

The Recent Advances in Microbial Control meeting is hosted every other year. 2016’s meeting was a resounding success and Microchem hopes to see you at the next meeting in 2018. We will announce the location and date in a newsletter to come.
