Glycerin is a colorless, odorless, and sweet-tasting liquid sugar ethanol or polyol. While glycerin formed naturally in plants through ethanolic fermentation of sugars, however, most of the glycerin used for commercial purposes through hydrolysis of fats and oils. Glycerin is known for its effective humectant properties, which helps retain and absorb moisture in the skin. Glycerin also helps the skin to absorb moisture or water from the surrounding environment. Because of its humectant properties, it is commonly used in skincare and haircare products.
