Antimicrobial Test Laboratories recently attended the 2015 Consumer Specialty Products Association (CSPA) annual meeting held in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. CSPA is a trade association for companies that formulate, manufacture and distribute regulated consumer products including disinfectants.

The focus of this year’s meeting was collaboration.  Industry representatives, consultants and regulatory officials gathered to discuss stronger relationship-building, to aid industry in understanding current governmental expectations and learning the direction of future regulations.

EPA Senior Microbiologist Dr. Stephen Tomisino presented EPA’s general approach to new method development and provided updates on the status of several collaborative studies including C. difficile, M. bovis, OECD methods, biofilms and the Quantitative Petri Plate Method (QPM).

EPA Antimicrobials Division (AD) Director Steven Knizner outlined division priorities for 2016, which included new efficacy methods (OECD), 810 guidance, next steps for regulatory use of the so-called “disinfection hierarchy,” and revising emerging pathogen guidance.
